Hello! I am Kellyann Hiew Yau Mei and welcome to my reflection journal.
The topic that I chose was about Equality. Article 8 basically states that everyone should be treated equally and there shall be no discrimination against any citizen whatever their gender, race, religion, descent or place of birth shall be.
As seen in the case of Beatrice Fernandez v Sistem Pernerbangan Malaysia as well as Noorfadilla Binti Ahmad Saikin v Chayed Bin Basirun & Others, discrimination of gender still exits.
This issue was chosen because as a female myself and studying in the field of construction, it is possible that in the future I will be discriminated. This is because the construction industry has always been more of a man's field of work. Thus it is possible that my future employer may think that I am not fit for the job as seen in this article.
I'm grateful for my lecturer, Miss Saratha for teaching us this module. She has been very knowledgeable and helped us understand the topic properly. She has also helped us to improve and make us think outside the box. I am also grateful for my team mates for being so understanding, cooperating and helpful to me.
Throughout this assignment, I have gained the following Taylor's Graduate Capabilities (TGC) which is the Interpersonal Skills and Communication Skills. Both TGC skills were obtained during group meetings where discussions were made, when we were distributing work load and helping each other when help was needed.
I'm glad that I registered for this module as I wanted to learn about my rights. I have gained more knowledge than I thought I would have. It is enlightening to know what my fundamental rights and liberties are and how they can be limited due to various circumstances such as when the Yang di-Pertuan Agong proclaims a State of Emergency. It is also informative to know the three branches of government, their functions and the overlapping of powers. In addition, it is useful to know the rule of law and that legal aid can be provided to us if needed.
