Hello. My name is Shawnne Gan Yuan Ping.
First of all, I would like to thank our beautiful Miss Saratha for her excellent teaching methods in this module, Rights in Malaysia. I will not lie - when I first found out that this module was about law, I was afraid that I would not be able to cope. However, it has turned out to be a very fruitful and wonderful learning experience with Miss Saratha, with all the games and quizzes that she brought into the classes.
This module is about Constitutional Law, whereby we are taught about the separation of powers in Malaysia, Rule of Law, fundamental liberties, emergency powers and legal aid.
I've never once given a thought to what my fundamental liberties are as a human being. After learning about the nine fundamental liberties, I realised how important it is to know what my rights are as a person, and how some of our human rights may be restricted in certain circumstances, for instance, in a state of emergency.
For the purpose of this E-portfolio assignment, Wei Ziang and I have chosen to write on the rights to freedom of religion, which is guaranteed in Article 11 of the Federal Constitution of Malaysia where it states that every person have the right to practise their chosen faith.
However, this is not the case when it involves minors - persons who are below the age of 18 years. Their religion can only be decided by parents or guardians whilst they are still minors.
Miss Saratha has been very helpful and gave me great advice in order to make improvements and also to help me understand better on this topic. Also, I would like thank my team members for their cooperation in completing this Eportfolio.
I was able to develop a few Taylor's Graduate Capability (TGC) which are Interpersonal Skills, Discipline Specific Knowledge, and Thinking and Problem Solving Skills.
I do not regret taking this module as part of my course for this semester. Now, I know how important and beneficial the knowledge on Constitutional Law is. As a fellow Malaysian, it is vital that we do not take for granted what our fundamental liberties are, for it is part of our human rights and we should not let them be taken away from us.
